Edgar Allen Poe

“Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there, wondering, fearing, doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before. ”  The Tell-Tale Heart

We continue reading Edgar Allen Poe short stories this week with The Black Cat and The Cask of Amontillado.  Students will have a vocabulary quiz this Wednesday over words they have recorded from The Raven, The Tell-Tale Heart, and The Masque of the Red Death.

In grammar, we continue working with subordinate clauses introducing the noun clause and how to diagram it.  Knowledge of the jobs a noun can have in a sentence will be key to understanding the noun clause:  that of the subject, direct object, indirect object, or the object of the preposition.  Our next grammar exam will be on Monday, February 8th which will include review material plus the adverb, adjective, and noun clauses studied more recently.  It is important for students to continue memorization work on the Helping and Linking Verbs, and to take time each night studying the grammar handouts in their binders.
