This week in Latin I we practiced translating simple sentences using the vocabulary we learned in Chapter I and the case endings from the first declension. Students had the opportunity to translate Latin sentences into English and English sentences into Latin. We put the chart of first declension endings into practice and continued to practice declining words. Students also learned how to parse nouns–they are now able to list every property of a noun (gender, case and number) just by looking at how it is used in the sentence.
This week we will start work on Chapter II of our textbook and begin learning about the properties of verbs. Soon students will know how to conjugate verbs in the present tense, manipulate the endings to fit into any sentence, and also parse them as they now know how to parse nouns.
